       2、北欧两项1924年被列为首届冬季奥运会比赛项目，年以前只设个人赛，1988年起增设团体赛，仅有男子项目。比赛按跳台滑雪、越野滑雪的顺序进行。跳台滑雪初为70米级，1992年改为90米级；越野滑雪原为18公里，1956年起改为15公里。确定名次的方法原来根据单项成绩换算成得分，得分高者名次列前。

       3、短道速滑比赛场地面积为30米x60米，跑道每圈周长111.12米，比赛采用分组预赛、次赛、复赛、决赛的淘汰制，抽签决定道次。比赛出发时，多名运动员在一条起跑线上同时起跑，滑行过程可以随时超越对手。运动员必须戴防护头盔和防护手套，身穿防切割服参加比赛。短道速滑1980年首次出现在冬奥会上，当时为表演项目。1992年阿尔贝维尔冬奥会被列为正式比赛项目，设男子1000米、女子500米和男女接力四项。1994年利勒哈默尔增加到男女500米、1000米和男女接力六项。2002年盐湖城冬奥会又增加了男女1500米，短道速滑已经增加到了八个比赛项目。

       4、高山滑雪共设五个项目，十枚金牌。包括速降(1948年列入)、回转(1948年列入)、大回转(1952年列入)、超级大回转(1988年列入)和两项全能(1936年列入，包括速降和回转)。其中速降和超级大回转属于速度较量，回转和大回转属于比赛技巧较量，两项全能属于综合能力较量。比赛起点处有一栏杆，当栏杆移开后，选手迅速出发，计时精确到百分之一秒。比赛时选手依次从起点滑下，完成规定线路用时最少的选手为获胜者。当选手错过旗门或偏离滑道都将被取消资格。比赛采用单人出发，顺序抽签排定。高山滑雪各项目间的区别在于旗门的数量设置和场地起终点垂直高度差不同。

       5、冬季两项共设10枚金牌：男子20公里和女子15公里个人赛、男子12.5公里和女子10公里追逐赛以及男子15公里和女子12.5公里集体出发六个项目射击4次，射击姿势及顺序为卧射、立射、卧射、立射，每次5发子弹。男子10公里竞速赛、女子7.5公里竞速赛和男女4x7.5公里接力均射击两次，射击姿势及顺序为卧射、立射，个人赛每次5发子弹，接力赛每人每次8发子弹。

       6、俯式冰橇比赛设男子和女子单人两枚金牌，选手在一天之内完成两次比赛，计时精确到0.01秒，两次比赛成绩相加用时最少者获胜。

       7、越野滑雪设男子自由式竞速赛(1992年列入)、15公里古典式(1924年列入)、30公里追逐赛 (15+15)(1956年列入)、50公里自由式集体出发(1924年列入)、4x10公里接力(1936年列入)、男子团体竞逐赛，女子自由式竞速赛(1964年列入)、10公里古典式(1952年列入)、15公里追逐赛(7.5+7.5)(年列入)、30公里自由式集体出发(1992年列入)、4x5公里接力(1956年列入)、女子团体竞速赛共12枚金牌。
